When I first saw the video below concerning a California Divorce father protesting child support calculations, I was appalled that someone would even post such a thing to YouTube.
How selfish can you be to suggest you should keep your retirement fund and not support your kids?
What do you think? Is he a Deadbeat dad?
Yes, He is a Deadbeat!
Divorced families have the responsibility to support one another through alimony and child support.
All assets should be considered in these calculations.

No, He’s Not a ‘Deadbeat!
If you consider some other Federal Law computations, you can make an argument to exclude Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) in child support calculations.
For example, the Federal formula for Federal Student Aid does not include IRAs.
As an extreme example (but it illustrates the point): an unemployed family whose only asset is 400,000 in retirement funds would qualify for Federal Student aid. The retirement fund assets are not included in calculations, however income from retirement funds is not excluded.
It’s unclear from the video whether California was going after his retirement funds as an asset in calculations or withdrawals from the funds (income).
But, if the Federal Government sets the example when it excludes IRAs for Federal Student aid, should states take a second look and possibly revise their child support laws to exclude IRAs?

Dear Dad I made it without you???? Did the guy who made the video submit this as well? Not bias?
As a male custodial parent I had trouble getting my ex wife to pay child support. She had a job , a new husband who made more money, a nice house, nice car. Guess what, the court could care less about helping dad.
I’m sorry to hear about your situation. I connected emotionally with the heart image as well, but my immediate thought was what it conveyed about the child. For me, the true message is about the person who wrote those words, not the recipient.
Give me a break. Most Child support agencies are no better than nazi enforcement foot soldiers. Most fathers want to support their children but the courts favor the mother for ovious 17th century mindset and encumber the father with strings that the mother is not held to. This is a bias article intended to spin the rehtoric that “dad” is the villian and should forfiet his retirement.
You know, we can refer to a duck as a bird, and everyone still knows it’s a duck.
Perhaps we could have used the term “noncustodial parent” and the focus would have remained on whether IRAs should be used for Child Support. But the fact is: this appears to be a “Father” who uploaded HIS video protesting paying HIS child support. No bias.
